Mayfair is the
largest fundraiser for the Barbara M. Tufts Cooperative Preschool. It is a
fun and festive day in May organized by Coop teachers and parents. The
success of Mayfair is due to the involvement of all its volunteers.
Everyone is welcome to come and many families come to Mayfair from East Greenwich and
surrounding towns who are not affiliated with the school.
In the silent auction, bid
on gift certificates, vacations, spa gift baskets, framed artwork, sports
memorabilia and much more. Fun activities for the children
include pony rides, face painting, a dunking booth, and cake walks to name
a few.
The first Mayfair was
held in May 1979 at Swift Gym. In 1981, the fair was a 2 hour fundraiser
which they expected would raise about $500. There were three-legged races,
a tug-of-war, pony rides, face painting, sponge toss and other games which
were charged a small fee.
The 2004 Mayfair's event raised over $24,000, which enabled us to provide
exemplary preschool education for all children in our community,
regardless of the family's economic situation.
