The experienced and caring teachers at the Barbara M. Tufts Cooperative Preschool (East Greenwich Co-op) foster individual potential and encourage creativity and self-expression. Classrooms are filled with materials, experiences and people who nurture and stimulate curiosity, cognitive growth, emotional well-being, awareness of achievement, fine and gross motor development, a sense of self-esteem, socialization skills and self-care.

Parents are the backbone of our school and a child's most important teacher; most parents volunteer in their child's classroom once per month, resulting in an exceptional ratio of one adult per three children.

Classes go for walks to the playgrounds. Field trips to the fire station, a garden, pumpkin patch, tree farm, museum, or aquarium are engaging and allow children the opportunity to discover their world.

We offer a morning or afternoon program for three and four year old children meeting two to five days a week.

We offer an afternoon pre-kindergarten program for four days a week (Mon-Thrs).

A day in the Tufts Cooperative finds children exploring a carefully planned environment, choosing activities that interest them and moving freely from one experience to the next one. A dependable daily routine helps children feel secure as they rotate through four activity centers:

the block room which encourages large motor-skill development while climbing, riding, building and sharing.

the reading room where circle time provides a chance to listen, sing and read. The group engages in songs, word plays, and poems to develop vocabulary and understanding.

the family-life room where children engage in make believe family activities while cooking, dressing up, and woodworking.

the work room where crafts, playdough and paint are the focus.

Accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the Rhode Island Department of Education, the Cooperative provides a firm foundation for school readiness and the framework for a lifetime of learning and exploration.

The East Greenwich United Methodist Church provides the space for the school at no cost, so that the Cooperative can offer a sliding fee scale and no child is ever denied access for financial reasons.
